- Visit the ski area that will host the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2029.
- Ride some of the best lift-accessed off-piste skiing and snowboarding in Scandinavia.
Description
With a population of 18.000 Narvik is a lively city with hotels, restaurants, cinemas and nightclubs. However, there are not many Scandinavian cities where you can walk to a ski lift from the city centre.
The lifts at Narvikfjellet ski area are pretty impressive – you can ski or snowboard 900 vertical metres from the top lift, and you get more than 1100 vertical metres in one go if you continue up to Tredjetoppen.
Narvikfjellet is as good as any other top ski resort in Scandinavia. When conditions are good, it is truly unique. Riding untracked snow, surrounded by fjords and mountains, is just extraordinary.
Narvik has been selected as the host of the Alpine World Championships in 2029. This means that the town and the ski area is currently preparing for hosting this event, with big plans for improving and expanding the lift accessed skiing and snowboarding. A new lift to the summit of Linken at 1000 metres above sea level is planned to be installed by the season 2025/2026.
Since the old chairlift to the summit will not run in the season 2024/2025, we will use the other lifts to ride the ungroomed terrain in the ski area and use skins to reach Linken and Tredjetoppen and the vast backcountry area surrounding these summits.
There are many backcountry skiing and snowboarding options in Narvikfjellet with different levels of difficulty. Since we have detailed knowledge of the mountain, we can take you to spots few others are able to find.
